Sometimes difficult situations pop up and that is a fact, but they seem a lot more complex if you are a boarder in a different country. That is why having a guardian is important. There are a lot of things to consider when talking about what kind of guardianship is the best but there are only a few main points.
First of all it is their attitude towards the boarder. A good guardian will always come and meet you personally, ensure that everything is going well and will generally keep in touch. It is vital that the guardian can be contacted at anytime. For example if there is a problem at school, such as tomorrow's flight has to be changed and you have no idea what to do then you can just call your guardian.
Then the half terms and generally holidays. The thing about guardianships is that you do not have a set guardian to go to, so they have to arrange a host family. It might sound very discouraging, but it is a great opportunity to find people and a place you like best. It is also very interesting to meet different people, because you never know who they are friends with. It can even be a celebrity! A good guardian will always ask for your opinion and will make the most appropriate arrangements, carefully considering the family's profile.
The last, but not the least is the attention that they pay to you personally. There are a lot of people who might do all the above routine things, but not pay attention to what kind of person you are. It makes the stay abroad more home-like, when people are interested in your background and hobbies.
Guardians are the people who make a different country like home, they are the ones looking after you and greeting for the first time. And the first impression is the most memorable.
